Welcome to Portland Reading Foundation
Portland Reading Foundation is a reading intervention program serving at-risk children attending Portland metro area high-poverty schools. The program has been serving elementary and middle school children since 2005 and has served more than 800 children to date.
Portland Reading Foundation partners with school administrators to identify students who are most at-risk for failing to learn to read.
Trained tutors use a phonics-based, systematic multi-sensory approach validated by the National Institute of Child and Human Development. Our Reading Team model includes two types of tutors who meet with students three times per week during the school day:
Reading Specialists - certified teachers and reading specialists
Parent Tutors - parents from the school community who have undergone special training
Results of our program have been substantial, with an average gain of 1.5 years in eight months of instruction.
